Mathematics

Introduction

At Palm Global Academy, our Mathematics curriculum for Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6) is designed to develop strong problem-solving skills and logical thinking. Pupils progress from fundamental number concepts to more advanced topics such as fractions, decimals, and percentages. We emphasise practical application, enabling children to see how mathematics is used in everyday life—from budgeting to measuring. Through interactive lessons and real-world examples, learners build confidence and accuracy in calculations, preparing them for higher-level mathematics and fostering analytical thinking.

Core skills pupils will learn:

  • Number and Place Value: Understand numbers up to 1,000,000, including negative numbers and Roman numerals.
  • Calculations: Master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with larger numbers and decimals.
  • Fractions, Decimals & Percentages: Compare, simplify, and calculate with fractions; convert between decimals and percentages.
  • Measurement: Work with units of length, mass, volume, time, and money; calculate perimeter, area, and volume.
  • Geometry: Explore properties of shapes, angles, symmetry, and coordinates; begin basic transformations.
  • Statistics: Interpret and present data using charts, tables, and graphs.
  • Reasoning & Problem-Solving: Apply skills to real-life contexts, fostering analytical and critical thinking.
