Arabic

Introduction

At Palm Global Academy, our Arabic curriculum for Key Stage 2 (Years 3–6) introduces pupils to the language from a foundational level, starting in Year 3. Using texts such as Madinah Arabic Reader by Dr. V. Abdur Rahim, learners begin with basic vocabulary, simple sentence structures, and essential grammar. As pupils progress through each year group, they will engage with increasingly complex texts and conversational practice, developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Our approach integrates Islamic contexts, fostering an appreciation for the language and its significance in understanding the Qur’an

Core skills pupils will learn:

  • Reading: Recognise and read Arabic letters, words, and short sentences; progress to reading simple passages and stories.
  • Writing: Form Arabic letters accurately; write words and short sentences; gradually develop paragraph writing with correct grammar.
  • Speaking and Listening: Practice basic greetings, common phrases, and short dialogues; build confidence in pronunciation and conversational skills.
  • Vocabulary Development: Learn essential words related to everyday life, Islamic terms, and themes from selected texts.
  • Grammar: Understand basic sentence structure, verb conjugation, pronouns, and prepositions; progress to more advanced grammar concepts in later years.
  • Comprehension: Respond to questions about short texts; infer meaning from context as proficiency grows.
