IGCSE Economics

Aims

The IGCSE in Economics qualification enables students to:

  • Develop an understanding of economic concepts and apply these concepts to real-life situations
  • Calculate, interpret and evaluate economic data in order to make reasoned arguments and informed judgements.
  • Develop an awareness of economic change and its impact on developing and developed economies.
  • Understand economic issues, problems and possible solutions that affect mixed economies.
  • Participate effectively in society as citizens, producers and consumers.

How is it assessed?

The IGCSE in Economics is assessed by two external written exams, both worth 50% of the total marks

Paper 1: Microeconomics and Business Economics – Examination of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Paper 2: Macroeconomics and the Global Economy – Examination of 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Exam Information

The IGCSE Economics external exams only take place in May/June of the academic year. 

All exams will be supervised and taken at an examination centre local to you.
